Postea in medio Altaris extendens et jungens manus, caputque aliquantulum inclínans, dicit, si dicendum est, Glória in excélsis Deo, et prosequitur junctis manibus.
At the middle of the altar the priest intones the angelic hymn — the song the angels sang over Bethlehem (Lk 2:14). At High Mass all stand at the intonation. The rubric has it said “si dicendum est” — if it falls to be said: it is omitted, among other days, at the seasonal Masses of Advent, Pre-Lent and Lent and at Requiem Masses, and returns on the feasts of those seasons. At the words “Adorámus te”, “Grátias ágimus tibi”, “Jesu Christe” and “Súscipe deprecatiónem” the priest bows his head, and at “Cum Sancto Spíritu” he signs himself with the cross.
