Greek κύριε, the vocative of κύριος “lord”. No Latin dictionary heads the bare word — Latin took the whole formula instead: Niermeyer heads kyrie-eleison as a noun for the chant itself, and Du Cange has kyrieles for the litany and the verb kyrieleisare, “to sing Kyrie eleison”.
