In Masses for the Dead no blessing is given. After Requiéscant in pace the priest says Pláceat tibi, sancta Trínitas, kisses the altar and, if the Last Gospel is to be said, reads the Gospel of Saint John.

At the Gospel side the priest reads the prologue of Saint John. At Et Verbum caro factum est everyone genuflects.

The priest kneels at the foot of the altar and begins three Hail Marys with the people, who answer the second half of each.after low Mass, and omitted after a sung Mass

The antiphon is said by all together, and a versicle follows it: the priest says “Pray for us”, and the people answer.

The collect with which the priest closes the antiphon. Leo XIII asked in it for the freedom of the Church. Since 1930 these prayers have been offered for Russia.
